Lovey Dovey & Briana
Seattle's Smile Brigade have just finished two stellar tracks that jingle and jangle in the pale moon light. They will be available digitally everywhere June 12th 2012, released by Tilton House Records...
The titles of the songs are Briana and Lovey Dovey. Musically, Briana is to the point with stream of consciousness lyrics about unrequited communication in the early stages of romance... A tangle of guitar and keys punctuated with girl group harmonies sung "castrato" by two of the brigade's more effeminate sounding chaps Peter J. and the freshly departed sticksman, Jerome Starvinbone. J Hiram sings lead on "Briana".
Lovey Dovey is piano and guitar driven with lush harmonies that appear at one point, in five parts. The song has brilliant lyrical imagery and a shit ton of chords. We stopped counting (chords) in the verse after eleven. Sound snotty or un-rock and roll? Huh? Think again, and think Elliott Smith or Big Star. Those guys are smart AND they rock!! Albeit in a fairly laid back and nuanced way Peter J. sings on this one!!
Released in digital format only because we are frugal and spent the dough on top notch producers (Robert Cheek) and catering. Smile Brigade figures that even without cassettes and vinyl there are still plenty of possibilities releasing them exclusively, digitally, onto the World Wide Web.
