Here's an Idea... I'll update the news on the website. Hi guys, realized today that's been a while since you've gotten a news update. We've been busy so far this year
doing a midwest tour which was fantastic! We've been playing shows. More in Portland and more to come. We're also working on a couple of west coast tours to be rocked by the end of the summer. We're also finishing up on the e.p. Let us mistify you with mist. We have brews brewing and cooks cooking on through the night. good things to come, stay tuned.

Where have your precious lovelies been? In the studio recording an EP? Getting their vinyl albums pressed? Gearing up for a midwest tour? Rocking out in 60s garb? You guessed it, all of the above. The EP is recorded, we have some more mixing but we're proud of it, and incidentally it's the first recording by Smile Brigade's current all star line up. Also, Go Metric Records is putting out our first album, Take the Precious Edge Off This Treacherous Ledge, on vinyl. For the discerning record snob in you. Come to the vinyl release at the Sunset Tavern on February 25.
Do you live in the midwest? Keep an eye out for Smile Brigade. We've got upcoming shows in Omaha, Minneapolis, Madison, Chicago, Fargo, Montana, Denver, Salt Lake City. I'm probably forgetting a city or two but it will be listed on our shows page. Also, check out photos from our recent High Dive Show.

Well, the tour was a smashing success. Much gratitude to everyone involved. Now we're playing locally the next month or two, writing some new songs, talking about the next album. We move fast like the cheetah. And Christmas is coming. If you need a stocking stuffer you might want to buy Journey's Greatest Hits. Or our CD, Take the Precious Edge Off This Treacherous Ledge. Which involves less hair and tight pants. Unless that's your thing, I mean, we'll put Jessie in spandex and send him over to your house. If that's what you want. No? Didn't think so. Yes, Smile Brigade Cds for all the kids and grandparents.

The western seaboard be advised. Smile Brigade are embarking on a thousand mile road trip. If you live in California, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, or Montana, we'll be in your area. Check the shows page for details, or visit our Myspace page. We'll have regular updates about our exploits and adventures here on the news page, or on our Myspace blog, so check back often.
Photographic evidence of our CD release can be seen HERE

Our CD release show on Friday went off incredibly well. Thanks again to our great friends, We Wrote the Book on Connectors, and A Gun That Shoots Knives. I will never think of soap the same way again. And for those who came to the prom, I hope you got home safe, that you didn't wreck your parents' car or get an underage drinking fine, and that you used protection if you chose to ignore the example of Goosie, the Abstinence Goose, who showed us all that you don't need to have sexual relations to have fun. Thank you giant anthropomorphic waterfowl. My heart is pure.
Photographic evidence of the event will be forthcoming. For those that bought CDs, I hope you are busy burning them for your friends.

Ahem
After much silence, it's my distinct honor to tell you Smile Brigade are alive and well. We've reconstituted our lineup, hiring myself on keys/accordion and Laurentius Leonardo Hartomo on bass/cool names. Things have been in motion lately. We have our freshman release finished and we're gearing up for a CD release show at the High Dive on Friday, October 12, a west coast tour in early November, and a blitz of radio publicity, all the fun things a band does when it's starting out. We hope you are sleeping well and eating right.

It's almost the end of the year. And before we go out of the '06 and into the '07, I'd like to give you the latest news from Tilton House HQ. We would like to welcome a member
to the Brigade. Andy Meyer has joined us after recording the album. He was really great to work with, plays guitar and kind of has a decent sense of humor, so we thought we'd let him
play with us. The only thing we're afraid of with the new bigger sound is melting your faces off. But that's not much to complain about, is it?
We have tons of new shows coming up in the coming months. I also revamped the photos page, so it's a bit more user friendly. There will be more photos coming soon. Soooo, hang tight! Bring in the new year with a good drink and some(thing/one) sweet! We'll be seeing you at shows soon!
09-27-06
It's August, 4 months after we started recording in May and we're happy to say that it's done. We'll be shopping out the CD to Various labels over the next couple of months. In the mean time, we'll be working on getting a new member into the band (anyone know of a guitarist/keyboardist? let us know) then will come the shows. Keep checking back for more news and have a good time.

Howdy. We just finished recording and mixing. YAY!!! don't get too excited yet, though. We've decided to go back into the studio to re-do a couple of things. So, our release will be pushed back a little bit, but it's going to be good. We have tons of shows coming up. So check out our shows page for updates. and in the meantime go here for some serious fun! We'll see you around!
03-03-06
It's been a while since I've updated this site and given news. We had our last show (for a while) @ the Comet (2-25-03-06) and it was a blast!!! thanks to Andy for playing cowbell and to all the people who joined us on shakers and tamberine.
We're holing ourselves up for a couple of months. Firstly to finish up some demos we've been working on. After that we're going into the studio to record our debut, a five song e.p. that we'll be releasing ourselves.
Check out Chris Crites artwork in the links. He'll be doing a painting for the cover of the e.p.
Once we're finished with the recording we'll be playing more shows! Can I hear a woop woop!!!? So come back soon and often. I'll be updating this site more often with news and shows when the time comes. AND enjoy the pre-quil to spring. It's just around the corner!
12-08-05
Show on the 8th of December! click on the word "shows" there to the left for more info.
Also, we're happy to announce a new addition to the band.
over the past couple of years we've been fortunate to have some cool and tallented bassists to play with us. Some had other projects going on others, for one reason or another just didn't quite mix. So our quest continued while we had people sit in for shows and recording and what not (thanks Levi and Myer).
But here at long last we have found some one who has found us. And we'd like to introduce Andrew Luxem on the bass guitar and backing vocals. He's newly transplanted to the area from (my home state) Kansas and will be debuting at our December 8th show at the High Dive. The energy and chemistry is great. and We're equally excited to have him with us.

Yo, Thanks to all of you who came out last night! You're all so rad!!! and the bands that played? F'get about it. Today, Jesse's at Sasquach, Stan's watching "Godzilla" at SIFF, Levi's getting ready for the Luna Moth's show on Tuesday, and I'm just trying to keep from burning up in the heat.
We're going to be taking some time off from shows to record, but we'll keep you updated on what's going on. Untill then, Stay cool, keep hydrated, and put on the sunscreen. It's going to be a hot one!

Here's what the kids @ the Vera Project had to say about little ol' us for our show coming on May 27th
"Openers Smile Brigade may look familiar to you, since they've recently changerd their
name from J. Hiram Boggs and Satisfaction when they went in a different directioin
while making noise for their follow-up to the "Crude Stew" EP, producing a cheerful rock-driven sound
full of influences you can try to pick out when you see them."
5-10-05
Hey you buncha Wankers!
We just got back from the tour. it was actually a let's see... 1-2-3-4.... umm.... 17 hours of f'n rain storm the whole way home.
The trip started off rough. Not 10 minutes after picking up the rental van, I got backed into by this fella in a wagon. Thank the good news I talked myself into getting the extra insurance.
The show in Eugene was very fun we played with these kids called the Parson Red Heads. They were fabulous. and our new friend Amy who set up the show for us was very hospitible. Thanks, lady!
The San Francisco show was fun. We played with this band called Mandrake. Stand-up bass, accoustic guitar, classical guitar (played classically) and drums with vocals they were very melodic and aggressive in a Modest mousey sorta way. Rrreally cool! The Hemlock was a pretty hip crowd.
We made the obligatory stop at Amoeba. I got the Sonic's first album, a Scrasj 7" and Bowie's "Space Oddity" single. Jesse picked up a UK mono copy of "Hard Days Night" and an Outcast record. We were bummed that we'd gotten all this new music and couldn't listen to any of it on the way home (all on vinyl).
As I said the trip home was precarious especially in the mountain passes. But we got home safe and exausted. As Stan said when we filed out of the van. "I think I'm going to be sick..."
Albums we listened to:
Beatles White album and Let it be Naked
Beach boys "Pet Sounds" extended and Good Vibrations
Joan of Arc "How Memoy Works"
The first 3 Wipers albums,
The first 4 Ramones albums
Wilco "Summer Teeth"
Jellyfish Live bootleggs
Afghan Whigs
The Vells
Roxy Music
My Addicted Son
Weezer "pinkerton"
Dinosaur Jr.
lots of other stuff I don't remember.

This is what's happenin. We're a holin our selves up in Tilton House Recording Facility laying tracks down for updated demos. We have 5 or 6 unrecorded songs and a couple of other tunes. We're gonna work out the bugs and start a plan to record a full length. We have a couple of shows coming up both here and San Francisco so keep an eye out and stay rad.
4-1-05
Yes, it's April Fool's day, but it's no joke that change is in the air. Just on the face, that is.
J. Hiram Boggs is still a solo project
and there will be more to be heard from him soon. And he along with Jeremy Charbonneau and Stan Dunster
will be continuing forth as Smile Brigade. We have lots of shows coming up and lots of work to do, so
come out and support the rock and roll and stay tuned for a full length later this year.
1-9-05
Here we are, a new year and now a new release! Sing:song
is the new 7" we've released. It's available
at most of the indie record stores in the Seattle
area.
We also have a new member to the band. Stan Dunster
is now playing guitar with us. He's been around and
playing in many projects for a while.
His addition is helping add depth with
the live shows and adding a new perspective in the music.
welcome-welcome!

So as a few of you know, and many others
may have been wandering, the JHB and S have been
hiding out the past year or so.
Jesse and long
time colaberator, Jeremy C. have been working
dilligently on new material.
There is a lot of
exciting new stuff to be heard that may very
well blow your mind. An excess of ...well, a lot of new
tunes are currently being widdled down to a small
handful. Some of these songs will be going on the next
full length. Others on a CD single for which recording
will begin in the next couple of weeks. JHB will be
self releasing this single to keep the proverbial
ball rolling while he searches for a friendly neighborhood
label who's interested in putting out a full length for him.
Meanwhile, you can check out the links section to the right
to hear some of the new songs amongst other things.
And come back for updates on
shows and everything else.
